You’re engaged! So what happens now? Engagement photos will be one of the first things you do after getting engaged. Of course it doesn’t have to be immediately but you’ll want to get it on your schedule within a few months after you say “YES!” to marrying the love of your life! But the real question is… What do you wear to your engagement session?

Choosing what to wear for your engagement session shouldn’t be a stressor during the wedding planning process. Trust me when I say you will have enough other things on your plate to be stressed about. So here are a few tips on choosing what to wear!

1. What To Wear to Your Engagement Session: Complement, Don’t Match!

This is one of the first things I tell my couples when they ask me what to wear for their engagement session. You won’t want to match exactly what your partner is wearing. Complementing is the way to go! Usually it’s best to choose the pickiest persons outfit first. Find something they feel great in and then pull colors from that outfit for the other one!

2. What To Wear to Your Engagement Session: Stay Away from Busy Patterns

Busy patterns and bright colors can be hard to work with. You and your significant other should be the focus of the photos, not the clothes you are wearing.

3. What To Wear to Your Engagement Session: Accessorize

Don’t be afraid to throw in a couple accessories. Of course you don’t want to over do it. But throwing in a cute hat or a pretty necklace can give a little visual interest to the photos.

4. Wear something that makes you feel good

Having your engagement photos taken is a special experience and you will want to feel great during your photos! So go the extra mile when choosing your outfits. Don’t stray too far from what you would usually wear because these are YOUR photos and I want you to feel like you. But try renting a dress you love from somewhere like Rent The Runway or even browse for something pretty to wear from Lulus.

5. Hair and Makeup

Your engagement session is the perfect time to do a trial run for your wedding makeup! Get your hair done too so you feel ready to rock your session!
